A Guide To Buying A Horse

Consider Buying Your Next Champion Partner from Fox Den Farm

Buying a horse is an important decision. The horse’s type, temperament, athletic ability, breed, age, training and cost are all important considerations. We would be happy to talk with you about your riding and/or breeding goals and help you to find just the right match.

Buying a horse is both a financial and emotional investment.  Through our very knowledgeable staff we would like to help you to know as much as possible about the horse and the people you're buying from.

One of the first questions people usually ask is the price. Price is a factor of a horse’s age, sex, bloodlines, athletic ability, training and use.  The environment that the horse was raised and trained in is significant as well.  Environment can have a significant impact on the horse’s future health and career.

All of our horses are raised and trained using proven methods developed especially for athletes. Through nutrition and preventive health programs Fox Den Farm tries to give our horses everything they need to reach their full potential:

  • Routine rotational de-worming
  • Vaccination against Rabies, Botulism, West Nile, EVA, Rhino, Flu, Tetanus, EEE/WEE/VEE & Strangles
  • Regular blacksmithing.
  • Routine dental work after 3 years of age

If you have any questions about our raising and training programs or horses we will be happy to answer them.  Our goal is to help you make the right choice in a partner.

For this reason, we welcome your trainer's involvement. He or she knows your riding style and abilities better than anyone.  Please bear in mind that our sales prices do not include comissions.  It will be your responsibility to pay your trainer any fees and/or commissions on top of the purchase price should it be applicable.

If we don’t have the right horse for you on our farm, we keep an extensive list of horses for sale in the area who we are familiar with.  We would be happy to assist you in finding just the right horse to fit your needs.
